Dr. Paul Simon is the Director of the Division of Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention at the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LAC DPH) and an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the UCLA School of Public Health. Dr. Simon received his MD from the University of Michigan School of Medicine and his MPH in Epidemiology from the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. He is board certified in pediatrics and preventive medicine. He completed a two-year fellowship in field epidemiology with the Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS Program) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 1992 and then served as a Medical Epidemiologist in CDC’s Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention, assigned to the Los Angeles County HIV Epidemiology Program from 1992-1998.From 1998-2006 he was the Director of the Office of Health Assessment and Epidemiology in the LAC DPH. In his current position, he oversees the Tobacco Control and Prevention Program, Nutrition and Physical Activity Program, Cardiovascular and School Health Program, Policies for Livable Active Communities and Environments (PLACE) Program, Injury and Violence Prevention Program, and Office of Senior Health.He also oversees a First 5 LA-funded early childhood obesity prevention initiative.
