To Live Longer, and Better: New research reveals clues about length and quality of life

Mediterranean Diet Roundtable® Celebrates 10 Years of Advancing Healthy, Sustainable Eating in America with Virtual Event on November 20th
Mediterranean Diet Roundtable® about the Dietary Guidelines for Americans
The Mediterranean Diet Roundtable (MDR®) acknowledges the release of the updated Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA) and welcomes their broader flexibility and cultural inclusivity! However, the organization emphasizes that greater clarity is essential regarding adherence to the Mediterranean Diet to achieve a meaningful public health impact.
While the Guidelines move toward more adaptable eating patterns, they stop short of strongly underscoring sustained adherence to the Mediterranean model, one of the most scientifically validated dietary patterns in the world. Robust research consistently shows that the degree of adherence to the Mediterranean Diet directly correlates with reduced risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, cognitive decline, and overall mortality.
The Mediterranean Diet is not simply an option among many, but is a proven lifestyle framework. The science is clear: the closer individuals adhere to its core principles (plant-forward meals, healthy fats such as extra virgin olive oil, legumes, whole grains, and moderate fish consumption), the greater the health benefits.”
With nutrition-related chronic diseases continuing to place enormous strain on the U.S. healthcare system, MDR? calls for stronger institutional messaging that promotes measurable adherence rather than general alignment. Encouraging food operators not only to recognize but to consistently adopt Mediterranean dietary principles could significantly improve long-term health outcomes and reduce healthcare costs.
MDR® remains committed to advancing education, culinary translation, and policy dialogue to ensure that evidence-based, sustainable, and culturally rich eating patterns remain central to America’s food future.
