Sergio Davinelli, PhD, holds a joint appointment between the Department of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Molise, Italy and the University of Maryland, School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD, USA. Dr. Davinelli completed his undergraduate studies in Molecular Biology at the University of Bologna, Italy and he received his PhD training in Biochemistry. Dr. Davinelli is also the Scientific Director of the young researchers of Science of Aging for the ReGenera Research Group, Milano, Italy. Dr. Davinelli’s research is focused on the physiologic roles of food phytochemicals, particularly polyphenols, with regard to overall health promotion. Specific interests include: 1) health benefits of antioxidants/phytochemicals in fruits, vegetables and whole grains; 2) food genomics and functional foods for disease prevention and health promotion. He has a broad interest in mixed methods research designs and clinical nutrition interventions to answer questions linked to healthy food and disease risk. Dr. Davinelli is the author and co-author of several publications, including articles in peer-reviewed journals, book chapters and patents.
